Questions people ask

What is Olio?

Olio is a local sharing app where you can get free food from your favourite supermarkets and discover items your neighbours are giving away for free, including books, toys, and toiletries. You can also list your own items to give away or sell them for a few pounds. Additionally, you can volunteer to collect surplus food from local businesses and share it with people nearby.

How did Olio start?

Olio began when co-founder Tessa Clarke had a lightbulb moment while moving house. She had surplus food in her fridge that she couldn't finish and knocked on neighbours' doors to share it. She realized there must be an easier way to share surplus food with neighbours. When she told co-founder Saasha Celestial-One about the idea a few months later, they decided to make it happen. They started with 12 people in a single neighbourhood using a WhatsApp chat to share food.

What did Olio start as?

Olio began as a food sharing app in a few North London postcodes, but has since expanded to include sharing of anything around the house not getting the use it deserves, from boots to toys and other items.

What app ratings does Olio have?
