Questions people ask
What is Notpla made from?
Notpla is a family of regenerative packaging materials made from seaweed and plants. Seaweed is used because it grows quickly without requiring freshwater, land, or fertiliser, while capturing carbon and reducing water acidity.
What makes Notpla packaging biodegradable?
Notpla products feature natural coatings and materials made from seaweed that are 100% biodegradable. Unlike conventional containers with petrol-based coatings, Notpla packages can be composted and disappear without a trace, similar to a fruit peel.
Is Notpla's liquid packaging edible?
Yes, Notpla's Ooho liquid packaging is entirely edible. The innovative design encapsulates liquid in a thin, flexible layer that is 100% naturally biodegradable and entirely edible.
What major recognition has Notpla received?
Notpla won the Earthshot Prize in 2022 to 'Build a Waste-Free World' and secured £10 million Series A funding in 2020. The company has also partnered with major brands including JustEat and Lucozade, and received approval and visits from Prince William.
What products does Notpla offer?
Notpla's collection includes food containers with seaweed coatings, rigid cutlery, Notpla Paper, oil pipettes, laundry sachets, energy gel pods, and dry food sachets. Products are either home compostable, edible, water-soluble, or recyclable.
