About Open Source

Open source work spreads across a broad landscape, and this page gives you the whole horizon at once. Every product here publishes its source so you can read it, run it and, in many cases, change it. Some are polished apps made for everyday use. Others are building blocks for developers, services you host on your own hardware, or models and tooling for machine learning.

Use the four subcategories below to narrow the view, or stay on this page to see the category and everything beneath it together, with filters to cut across the lot. Listings appear newest first by default, and you can sort by community votes instead. Votes can never be bought. When you compare projects, check the licence, how recently the code was touched, and how plainly the installation and support are explained.

Open Source: questions answered

What belongs in the Open Source category?
Products and businesses whose source code is openly published and whose main identity is that openness. That covers finished apps, libraries, self-hosted software and AI models or tooling. A closed product that merely uses open components is better placed in the category that matches its purpose.
How do I choose between open source apps and self-hosted tools?
Pick open source apps when the product is something people use directly, on a device or in a browser. Pick self-hosted tools when the main appeal is running the software on your own server, keeping data under your control. Some products fit both, so choose the description that leads.
How do I list an open source project here?
Go to /submit and paste your website address. An AI drafts the profile from that site, then you check and edit every field before anything goes live. A paid launch costs $5, while a free listing joins a queue of about 6-8 weeks.
Can my project appear in more than one category?
Every listing has one main category, chosen when you submit it, and that is included free. If your project straddles areas, such as a library with an AI focus, a paid upgrade adds more categories for $5.
What should I check when comparing open source options?
Read the licence first, since it decides how you may use and share the code. Then look at how recently it was updated, how clear the documentation is, and whether the maintainers explain how to report problems. A well-described project usually signals a carefully kept one.
