Questions people ask
What is Rough Guides®'s tailor-made travel service?
Tailor-made travel means planning your trip with someone who is actually local to the place you're going. You tell Rough Guides® where you want to go and what kind of experience you're after. They connect you with a trusted local travel expert who builds your trip from scratch, based on your interests, pace, and budget. The expert takes care of planning, handles all bookings, and stays available while you're on the road. Each expert is vetted by Rough Guides® and knows their destination inside out. This is a fully personalized trip shaped by real local knowledge and backed by Rough Guides®'s 40+ years of travel expertise.
How does the planning process with Rough Guides® work?
The planning process starts when you tell Rough Guides® where you want to go and what kind of experience you want. You fill out a short form, and within minutes you'll get an instant, simplified itinerary based on Rough Guides®'s decades of expertise. You can share feedback on each proposed day, and this helps local experts refine the plan. You'll then receive up to three complete trip proposals from different independent, verified local experts, each tailored to your input. You can message or call them to request changes or ask questions. After discussions and adjustments, you choose the trip and expert that best fits your needs. You then secure your booking with a small deposit, choosing to pay in installments or all at once, with funds held securely until shortly before your trip.
How does Rough Guides® support sustainable travel?
By traveling with local experts who live where you're going, you directly support local communities and economies. You're not just a tourist, but a true contributor who makes a difference.
