What is the Hilo del Mar material?

Hilo del Mar is a material made from plastic recovered from the ocean floor through the Upcycling the Oceans foundation project. ECOALF has recovered over 2.1 million kilos of waste from the seafloor, with approximately 10% being plastic that is transformed into this material for creating outerwear, footwear, and accessories.

In 2015, a fisherman invited ECOALF's founder to go fishing and see the amount of garbage caught in his nets daily. Since no system existed to manage this waste, it was returned to the sea. This prompted the creation of the Ecoalf Foundation to support the Upcycling the Oceans project, ensuring all waste collected in nets is properly managed, classified, and given a second life.
